SYMPOSIUM HOME PAGE The third of the Mining and Environment Symposium organized biannually by the Chamber of Mining Engineers will be held between 11-12 June 2009 in Ankara. All living organisms continue their lives by means of natural resource consumption. However, human beings consume more than they require as a result of the forcing effect of capitalism developed after industrial revolution. Excessive consumption that comes together with population growth causes increase in the stress on the nature. Environmental sensitivity developed under these circumstances, forces the production methods to change in most industries. Mining is one of the vital activities of the social life. Nevertheless, public benefit and environmental adaptation must be taken into consideration and managed together while operating the mines In the light of this concept, The Third Mining and Environment Symposiums, by becoming a traditional event, is being held to contribute to determination and solution of environmental impacts and management problems. The major goal of the symposium is to examine and discuss environmental problems in mining industry, and to convey scientific and technical developments to the related industry members. The Symposium is also aiming at gathering researchers, business executives, and public and company representatives together for a stronger networking. In this way, it has been thought that, a significant progress would be made to overcome environmental problems and to increase awareness of society, mining industry, related operators and our members about these issues. -----------
